CATHERINE EMATRUDO - EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Catherine’s passion for photography began over 20 years ago when her experiences as a part-time model and pageant contestant allowed her the opportunity to watch professional photographers at work. She soon learned that as far as the models were concerned, the photographers that they came across were judged more on their personality than on their ability to shoot a camera. Fascinated by the artistic expression of a photograph, she began to absorb everything she could about makeup, lighting, film, and exposure.

In 1990, Catherine began shooting weddings for friends and family. The pictures that resulted were met with much enthusiasm and were shot with a 35mm camera. The photos were sharp, spanned the bride’s entire day, and contained many candids or unposed shots. Simple, beautiful, and uncomplicated – a style of photography she continues with today. Eventually her friends’ friends began to call and so began her path to professional wedding photography.

Attracted at the prospect of working in the professional wedding industry, from 1994 to 1997, Catherine found work as a wedding videographer. She found that the same “eye” that lent itself to photography also worked for videography. She was also able to see first hand how other photographers in the area worked. She observed how they interacted with their clients, the reception facilities, and the other service people hired for the day.

In January of 1998, eight years after shooting her first wedding, Catherine joined a large photography studio that would provide her with her first “formal” training. Mastering the professional grade medium format camera brought about sharper, more detailed portraits. With the studio providing weddings, there was often no meeting between photographer and bride until the wedding day. This was something that Catherine felt strongly about changing. In September of 2000, Catherine accepted a job as a freelance photographer for the Meriden Record Journal.

In November of 2000, Catherine left a large studio to begin Photography by Catherine, LLC. Her intent was to keep her studio personal and service oriented. Working right out of her home, she offers the same caliber of product as her larger counterparts—just at “reasonable” rates. She plans to accept twelve to fifteen weddings a year and spend the time required to get to know her clients, believing that customer communication is vital to a positive wedding experience. Her goal is to provide simple, beautiful, and affordable wedding photography and to have her brides and grooms feel that she was an integral part of their special event.

Catherine is, most importantly, wife to Mark and mother of a miracle named Alec.
